  The essence of the hypostatic unification of the two natures in Jesus Christ is that the Divine and human natures are both united in the Divine Hypostasis of the Son of God. The image of the hypostatic unification of the natures in Christ is well expressed by St Gregory the Theologian: "The Son of God is pleased to become and to be called also the son of man, not changing what He was (because this is unchangeable), but receiving what He was not (because He is merciful to mankind, so that what is incompossible may be made fit, entering into communion with us through the mediating flesh).
