Catechesis (from the Greek word catechism - teaching, instruction) - teaching the truths of the Orthodox faith and the practices of church life. The purpose of catechesis is to bring people into the Christian God-pleasing life.  In former times catechesis before baptism could take up to 3 years.

Are these idle names not meaning anything? And why did the Lord send the apostles into the world? - First of all, to teach all nations: Come, teach all the nations.... If you do not want to teach and educate yourself in Christianity, then you are not a disciple and follower of Christ, - the Apostles were not sent for you, - you are not what all Christians were from the very beginning of Christianity; I do not know what you are and what will happen to you".
