LYCIA
LYCIA. A region of Asia Minor (q.v.) in what is now southwest Turkey, near the ancient city of Ephesus (qq.v.), and site of a Hellenistic kingdom in centuries just prior to Christ, later incorporated into the Roman Empire (q.v.). The region was early evangelized by the apostle Paul, and its capital from the 4th c., Myra, was the see of the bishop, Nicholas.
