KIRILL OF TUROV
KIRILL OF TUROV, “the Golden-mouthed,” bishop, St. (1130–1189). A premier orator, Kirill, or Cyril, gave rhetorical yet dynamic sermons, which are preserved in a collection following the church’s liturgical year (Torzhestvennik). Kirill, living in Kievan Rus’ (q.v.), employed classical Byzantine literary forms and theology in his sermons, letters, and prayers, as did his contemporaries. Stylistically he may be considered eclectic but lively.
